INITIATION TOWARDS OUTER SPACE SECURITY

Even in this technological era, we have yet to reach a consensus on where space begins and ends. However, one thing is clear: space plays an essential role in our daily lives. Looking back to 1957, approximately 8,378 satellites have been launched into space. Of these, around 4,987 satellites remain in orbit, operated by more than 40 countries worldwide.

Safeguarding space and ensuring its peaceful use is a legitimate concern for every nation, whether they are space-capable or not. Space exploration significantly drives technological development, which is important for human advancement. Communication satellites provide access to remote and disconnected regions, bridging the digital divide. Space technology empowers us to monitor the pace and impact of global warming, essential for guiding mitigation efforts. Satellites also contribute to weather forecasting, disaster management, telecommunications, agriculture planning, and natural resource conservation—all of which make substantial contributions to the global economy and increasingly depend on the utilization of outer space.

While we do not live among the clouds, our collective prosperity on Earth is deeply connected to our advancements in space. Any unnecessary interference with space utilization would disrupt our daily lives. Just as joy comes with sorrow, advantages come with responsibilities, and reliance comes with vulnerability. These intertwined factors underscore the urgent need for greater space security.

Various space systems have dual-use applications. As technological innovation in space progresses, the risk of space becoming a battleground increases significantly. Preventing the deployment of weapons in outer space is important to ensuring global security and maintaining strategic stability.

OUTER SPACE SECURITY

One of the most compelling examples of collaborative space exploration is the International Space Station (ISS), which demonstrates the benefits of joint efforts in space research. As one of the most sophisticated scientific ventures, the ISS involves cooperation among five space agencies representing 16 countries. Regardless of whether space is viewed as the "final frontier," there should be no borders in our collaboration there.
