PROMESSION – WHAT IF SOMEONE DIES IN SPACE?

Death and Burial in Space: Exploring Ecological Alternatives Death is an inevitable part of human life. Across cultures and religions, there exist various customs and rituals for burial. While on Earth, these practices can be performed according to individual traditions. However, my concern lies with the question: if someone dies in space, how should they be buried properly and respectfully? Swedish biologist Susanne Wiigh-Mäsak has introduced an innovative form of ecological burial called Promession . Promession involves placing the corpse in a coffin, then freezing it to minus 18 degrees Celsius, followed by submersion in liquid nitrogen. This process makes the body extremely fragile, allowing vibrations of a specific amplitude to disintegrate it into organic powder. Subsequently, these particles are placed in a vacuum chamber where the water content evaporates, leaving behind a dry powder. Legality of Promession : This method is legally recognized in Sweden and Sc...
